The Omega2 development board has very small dimensions, being easy to integrate both in series projects and for hobbies. Its dimensions are 4 times smaller than the Raspberry Pi and 3 times smaller than the Arduino Uno.
Omega2 operation is based on the MT7688 System-on-a-Chip microprocessor. The board integrates a DDR2 RAM, flash memory, SMD antenna, but also other components, all in a space of only 43 x 27 mm.
Even though it is very small, this development board is a mini computer. In addition to the microprocessor running at 580MHz, it has a 128MB DDR2 RAM, 32MB of flash memory, but also WiFi b / g / n communication. It also lacks external connections, providing you with USB 2.0, UART, I2C, I2S and SPI interface. In addition, the pins can also be used as GPIO, numbering 15, but also for PWM signal.
Onion Omega2 inserts have been designed to have very small dimensions, but with simple functionalities. Next, each user can configure their system with expansion cards for different projects, for example: for Ethernet connection, for actuator control, but also for displaying information on the OLED screen.
Onion Omega2 can be easily added to your projects already started with Arduino Uno.
The Linux distribution used by Omega2 comes with a built-in shell, being easy to control on the command line. Also, the first time you use it, you have access to a very user-friendly setup wizard that helps you connect to the WiFi network, update to the latest firmware and connect to the cloud.
Based on a Linux distribution, Omega2 allows programming in a very large number of programming languages, those for which there is a compiler / interpreter in Linux. Some of these can be seen in the image above.
With expansion pads or dongles, Omega2 can communicate through both bluetooth and 2G or 3G cellular networks. Also, Omega2 also allows location with the GPS expansion card.
The pinout of the plaque can be found in the following picture. You can see connections for 3.3V, GND, RESET, but also all other pins. Of the GPIO pins, only 6 of them have no other functions, and the rest can be used for serial connection, SPI, I2C and I2S. In addition, you can see the USB 2.0 interface and Ethernet connections.
For a very wide range of usage examples and for details, refer to the documentation provided by the manufacturer.
